Parent & User Testimonies

January 28, 2008

We felt very blessed when our twin daughters, Ava and Audrey, were released from the NICU. We were, in fact, blessed. Our daughters were born seven weeks early. Audrey had been born with a hole in her heart and developed pneumonia. Fortunately, she overcame her challenges. Otherwise the only problem both girls faced was acid reflux.

The doctors assured us that the medication would be enough to take care of the problem... The medication was never enough. We had to keep both girls upright between 30 minutes and an hour after every feeding. They could not lay flat on their backs or bellies. We had to burp them at every ounce of milk...

In desperation I spent the day surfing the web for some type of a solution. Most sites offered some type of a wedge pillow that I could quickly see would not work. The babies were simply going to slide off! I was desperate and my babies were miserable.

It was a few nights later when I discovered the “Positional Therapy Pillow Co.” and their toddler bed mattress. Instantly I was sure that it would work. It just “looked right.” In tears I shared my discovery with my husband and together agreed that we would just have to find some way to pay for the mattresses.

We got the ComfyLiftBed less than a week later. The first couple of nights were hard on the girls. I don’t think it was the mattresses but rather that they were no longer sleeping in their cribs. They were a bit cranky for a few days and then nothing… No crying in the middle of the night. No fussing. No cranky babies in the morning. Nothing is great!

During their last check up, the pediatrician confirmed that both babies are gaining weight and doing remarkably well. Once again we are blessed, this time with Mr. Rubio’s creativity. There is no question that the ComfyLiftBed for toddlers has improved the quality of life my girls lead. I would highly recommend it to any parent of a refluxing child. The bed works!

My son suffers from GERD. He currently takes prevacid twice a day. He is 16 months old and I can count on one hand the times he has slept through the night because of his reflux. We received the Comfy Lift Bed a few weeks ago. It took him a few nights to adjust to the new sleeping position, but now he seems to rest better. He doesn't wake up as often and one night he even slept 9 hours straight which is AMAZING for him. I would like to thank the designers of this bed. I believe that God has used these wonderful people to help people like my son. God bless you and thanks again.

Mr. Rubio -

Molly is really comfy on her new mattress. We did have some issues at the start as she was used to being harnessed in - and the angle is slightly less than she was used to. So we did have to alter her medication to suit, however she does seem more rested and is cognitively gaining in leaps and bounds. This seemed evident after we got the mattress from you. My husband, Robert and I got the feeling that you were genuinely concerned about our daughter - which was refreshing compared to treatment from other companies, thank you for this. I do wish however that she would get over the reflux and maybe holidays and overnights with Grandparents wouldn't be such an ordeal. Having to be so careful about the type of food she can have and when to give her liquids. The mattress is the next best thing. Although if you have your creative head on again - an inflatable version that can be taken on holiday as a type of ready bed would be fab.

Thanks again

Mr. Rubio -

I just wanted to let you know that we received the pillow bed on Friday afternoon and we already LOVE IT!  Cameron has been sleeping in a small "Bouncy Seat" style rocking chair for several months now.  He could not sleep in a regular crib with the head raised because (as we all know) babies end up at the foot of the bed because the slide downhill this making raising the head of his crib totally useless as a treatment for his GERD.  He has slept so peacefully the past couple of nights and does not have any of the upper airway noise while sleeping that he usually has.   I can already tell that this bed was a true gift from God and will be invaluable to us.

I also want to thank you so much for keeping the sale price for us, I realize that you did not have to do this.  We are still hopeful that we can get it funded through our Disabilities and Special Needs Board, but if not, a restful night's sleep for our precious little boy is well worth cutting back on something else to be able to pay for this bed.  This was money well spent.

To Whom It May Concern,

I wish I could come hug all of you! We purchased your pillow within the past month and you've saved our lives. My son Adam is 14 months old and suffers from: Failure to thrive, Severe Anthropophagi Reflux, and Severe Gastroparesis (means that there was damage to his vagus nerve somehow and his stomach doesn't empty due to the stomach muscle not contracting to push food or fluids through-for 6 ounces of formula it would take maybe 10-11 hours). Our nightmare started around March 12 and continues medically-getting better slowly. He had an Nasogastric tube in from March 12 to June 7. We had propped the mattress up in his crib to give him that elavation-well what a joke, he would sleep downhill, tangle himself up in all of the tubes going from his feeding pump to his nose, every time he moved(every 6 minutes or so) the pump would alarm, lots of nights he would wake up vomiting the tube out of his mouth, and the list could go on. Needless to say we never slept-I don't know how I functioned, especially because daytime was horrific also between vomiting and crying.

I found you bed surfing the internet one night (morning) around 3:30 and promptly printed everything I could about it. Then paced my house for hours waiting for my in-laws who live downstairs to wake up. Bright and early I ran down and waited eagerly for their reaction---I couldn't have asked for a better one. They called and ordered it for us. Yahoo.........

When it came I started to panic over the thought of a 14 month old having absolutely nothing to "keep" him in bed. My other son was 15 months when we put him in a toddler bed with siderails and he got up on average 60-70 times each night , no word of a lie-what freedom to a toddler. Now the problem was that Adam was connected to a pole and pump by his nose.

He absolutely amazed us! From night 1 he puts himself to bed. Unbeleivable!!He sleeps ALL night, in an "uphill" position, and then during the day when he's had enough with playing he simply crawls in his room and climbs right in and is asleep in 2 minutes. He did get a gastric tube inserted into his stomach on June 7 and the morning after our first night home he did crawl to my doorway pump, pole and all being pulled by this new surgical site-OH BOY. I approached him slowly and all was well. He hasn't done it since so in my eyes his stomach hurt and he just wanted mommy.

I honestly hadn't slept more than 2-3 hours a night since March until your miraculous bed came. That's 2 1/2 months-now I (and my four year old0can get 7-8 hours of completely uninterrupted sleep. As for Adam he sleeps usually 10 hours and the pump never alarms because he's so comfortable and not having the GERD pain because of the design of the bed. Oh I could run through the streets screaming with joy. I've emailed pictures of him in the bed to soo..... many people just bragging about it.

I'm sending you some pictures today and please note that the last 3 or 4 are from today. We were due at my parents hours ago but while I was showering instead of trying to scale the side of the tub and join me he crawled right in his room for a nap. I don't have the heart to wake him.

I really can't thank you enough for this blessing of a bed. Please know I'll be bragging forever!!

Sincerely,

Melanie LaVoie (and Adam of course)

Hello,

I am grandma to Kaila Noye, who just turned 1 year old.  For whatever reason, Kaila would not sleep in her regular crib.  My daughter spent over 10 months with the baby in bed with her, neither of them getting good sleep.  I ran across your website by accident actually, was intrigued and ordered one of your beds to try.  Since night #1, Kaila has slept all night in her new bed and LOVES it!  My daughter is finally able to have evenings to herself and to get a good night's sleep also.  We only wish we had discovered your bed months earlier.  And by the way, Kaila does not have any problems with her health (no acid reflux, no asthma, etc.), just a healthy little girl that was not comfortable in a regular crib.

Thanks from a very thankful family~

My son has Cerebral Palsy and also has problems with reflux.  He is almost 3 years old now.  We had elevated the head of his crib only to find him down at the foot of the bed angry as can be in the middle of the night.  It finally got the to the point that he no longer slept in his crib and was sleeping in a little Fisher Price rocking chair we used for his g-tube feedings.  My husband and I had to take turns sleeping on the couch so we could keep an eye on him.  This went on for months.  I had come across the website for this bed and figured it would be wonderful for Cameron.  It turned out that it was just what he needed.  Because of his special needs, he has never been a great sleeper, but he is doing better since getting the bed.  He remains in an elevated position through the night even if he moves down on the bed.  My husband and I no longer have to sleep every night on the couch and we are sleeping better too!

Because my son has Cerebral Palsy, we were able to have the bed funded by our state's Disabilities and Special Needs Board.  They help fund things that children with disabilities need that may not be paid for by Medicaid.  If you have any questions about that, I will be glad to discuss it as well.

Re: ComfyLiftBed by The Positional Therapy Pillow Co.

I suffered from nighttime reflux until I began using the Positional Therapy Pillow “Ultimate Adjustable” model. The success of their adult pillow for treatment of my condition led me to consider the use of the ComfyLiftBed for my pediatric patients.

Having evaluated the design and intended benefits of the ComfyLiftBed, it is my opinion that the ComfyLiftBed is the best solution available for children afflicted with sleep/breathing disorders that can be treated with positional therapy. The ComfyLiftBed meets their special needs because it is the only mattress available that holds children in a slightly upright position while allowing them to partially roll within the cradled area to promote proper breathing and avoid choking.

I have begun prescribing the ComfyLiftBed for my pediatric patients with special needs and I am very pleased with the results.

Thank you,

Ashvin Patel, M.D.

Mr Rubio:

I just wanted to write and let you know that the Toddler Comfy Lift bed did arrive last Friday. We set it up on Saturday and our son did take a GREAT nap in it and looked so comfortable. That night as well as last night, he continued to sleep in the bed but did wake up a few times - he likes to sleep on his tummy and I believe is having to get used to rolling over with the high sides. He, however, did not have any reflux episodes! We also purchased him the fire engine toddler bed frame to go with it (which he loves) but I think the height of the bed was a little intimidating for him in the frame. We have now put the comfy lift bed on the floor so he can easily get in and out of it and also become more familiar with it. This seems to be working as he way climbing in and out of it last night prior to bedtime.

Thank you again for all of your assistance. We'll continue to keep you posted on how the bed works out for us!
